Arizona Ballet Nutcracker

How long until I can go en pointe?
Okay……so here’s the deal……….
I am 14 now. I started ballet when I was 3. then, i went to arizona ballet school when i was 5. had to quit when i was 9, almost 10. I was getting ready to go en pointe and try out for the nutcracker when i had to quit. now, i want to do it again and am starting in january. ive been practicing and it seems that my legs r still pretty strong.
plus, i know its really bad and all so dont get made at me (lol), but i can stand on my toes. i know it has nothing to do with it, but i thought i could just let you know……
so yah. time estimation for pointe?
The age of 9 is way too young to begin pointe. It is very unsafe for a person to begin at the age because they are still growing, and it could cause potential problems in the future. Your age of 14 now is a good time to begin. However, that doesn’t always mean you should start right away. If you have not danced for a few years, it make take some time to regain your strength and technique. These are very important things that a teacher looks for when deciding if a dancer should go en point. A dancer needs both strength and technique to safely do pointe. Some things that are important that teachers look for is knowledge of vocabulary, terms, positions, and etc. Also, correct turn out is essential, and knowing how to point your feet without sickling.
Bascially, nobody can determine how long it will take before you go en pointe. Talk to your teacher, and ask their opinion. Also, ask what weaknesses that you have so you can work on them and better prepare yourself for when the time comes.
