Jets WR Cotchery out for Sunday

Jets WR Cotchery out for Sunday

The New York Jets wide receiver was ruled out Friday for the team’s game against the Houston Texans with a groin injury that held him out of practice all week.

“It was the right decision,” Cotchery said. “I worked as hard as I could to give myself a chance to play in this game, but I didn’t make enough progress. where to buy NFL Jerseys? maybe ujersy is your choice”

Cotchery suffered a slight tear to his left groin in the Jets’ 26-20 overtime win at Cleveland last Sunday. The injury occurred moments before he made a terrific diving catch, hobbling along to finish his route, for a first down in the third quarter.

The team signed wide receiver Patrick Turner from the practice squad to help fill in. Turner was claimed off waivers from Miami in September and played for the Jets against the Dolphins in Week 3 before being waived and signed to New York’s practice squad.

“I like the way he’s been practicing,” coach Rex Ryan said. “I think the young kid can do it. We’ll see this week. Full Story

Driver in Brady car crash loses license for 60 days

BOSTON — The driver accused of running a red light and crashing his minivan into a car driven by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has lost his driver’s license for 60 days.

Recommend directory: Cincinnati Bengals, Records from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles show Ludgero Rodrigues’ license was suspended Oct. 28 because he had seven moving violations or accidents in which he was at least 50 percent at fault over the last three years.

Rodrigues can apply for reinstatement on Dec. 27. He must pay a $100 reinstatement fee. The Boston Herald first reported the suspension.

Brady was unhurt in the Sept. 9 accident near his Boston home. Rodrigues’ father was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Marketing agent gets prison in NFL ticket scam

CLEVELAND — A marketing agent with ties to the New Orleans Saints has been sentenced to eight months in prison for conspiring to scalp Super Bowl tickets and hawking fake “game-worn jerseys.

Mike Ornstein slumped on the podium when federal Judge Christopher Boyko in Cleveland handed down the sentence.

He pleaded guilty in June to scalping conspiracy and selling jerseys with the false claim that NFL players had worn them in games.

Ornstein is a former marketing agent for Reggie Bush and a frequent presence at Saints practices and games.

Bills defensive tackle Williams questionable

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills starting defensive tackle Kyle Williams is questionable for Sunday’s game at Cincinnati.

Williams is nursing a hamstring injury sustained Wednesday in practice. He returned after missing Thursday’s practice.

Williams anchors the defensive line, and is having his best season since being drafted in the fifth round of the 2006 draft. He leads the team with three sacks, and ranks third with 57 tackles.

Starting right tackle Cord Howard and running back Corey McIntyre are also questionable. Howard has a shoulder injury that forced him to miss Sunday’s win against the Detroit Lions, and McIntyre has an injured ankle.

Jaguars could be without DT Alualu vs. Browns

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars could be without first-round draft pick Tyson Alualu against Cleveland on Sunday.

Alualu was listed as doubtful with a knee injury. He was limited in practice all week. The Jaguars already are without defensive linemen Aaron Kampman and D’Anthony Smith. Both are on injured reserve.

Receiver Mike Sims-Walker returned to practice on a limited basis after spraining his right ankle against Houston. He was listed as probable. So were linebacker Justin Durant (shin) and defensive end Jeremy Mincey (hand).

Alualu, the 10th overall pick in April’s draft, has started every game this season. He has 48 tackles and 2½ sacks. If he can’t play, Leger Douzable and C.J. Mosley would get more playing time.

Polamalu returns to Steelers practice

PITTSBURGH — Steelers safety Troy Polamalu has returned to practice after sitting out two days with an Achilles’ tendon injury and is listed as probable for Sunday’s game against Oakland.

Also practicing were defensive end Brett Keisel (hamstring), who has missed nearly all of four games, and linebacker Lawrence Timmons (hip). Keisel is listed as questionable and Timmons is probable.

Recommend directory: Carolina Panthers, Left guard Chris Kemoeatu (ankle) also is probable after being held out of the New England game on Sunday. He went through full practices Thursday and Friday.

Safety Will Allen will miss a second successive game with a concussion that occurred against Cincinnati on Nov. 8.

Raiders TE Zach Miller expects to play Sunday

ALAMEDA, Calif. — Oakland Raiders tight end Zach Miller says he will play Sunday against Pittsburgh despite an injured foot.

Miller missed Oakland’s previous game Nov. 7 against Kansas City and is officially listed as questionable against the Steelers on Sunday.

Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha (sprained right ankle), defensive tackle John Henderson (right foot) and receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (hamstring) are also listed as questionable and will be game-time decisions.

The only player ruled out of the game Sunday is receiver Chaz Schilens, who has not returned from knee surgery during training camp.

Jags avoid blackout for 7th straight home game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars sold enough tickets to avoid a blackout, giving the small-market franchise seven consecutive home games on local television.

Tickets still remain for Sunday’s game against Cleveland, but Jacksonville avoided a blackout thanks to a 24-hour extension from the NFL.

The Jaguars blacked out nine of 10 home games last season, making them the poster child for slumping ticket sales and creating talk that Jacksonville might not be a viable NFL market. But the team stepped up ticket-selling efforts in the past year and avoided more blackouts.

Jacksonville has two home games remaining — against Oakland (Dec. 12) and Washington (Dec. 26) — and has to sell more than 7,500 remaining non-premium seats for each game to avoid a blackout.

Raiders players give union option to decertify

ALAMEDA, Calif. — The Oakland Raiders have become the final team to vote to give the NFL Players Association the option of decertifying if there is a lockout next year.

Union spokesman Carl Francis said the Raiders’ players voted Thursday on the issue. The current collective bargaining agreement expires after the 2010 season.

Decertification would give the union a chance to sue under antitrust laws if there is a lockout. Without decertification, the union would have to wait six months to file a suit after the collective bargaining agreement expired.

The Raiders also elected tight end Miller as the team’s new player rep. Linebacker Ricky Brown and quarterback Bruce Gradkowski are the alternates.

Chargers avoid Monday Night blackout

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Chargers have sold enough tickets to lift the local television blackout for Monday night’s game against the AFC West rival Denver Broncos.

It is just the second time in five home games that Southern California’s only NFL team has sold enough tickets to allow the game to be seen in the region.

The only other game shown on local TV this season was against the New England Patriots. Games against Jacksonville, Arizona and Tennessee were blacked out.

The Chargers say they still have 2,500 general admission tickets to sell to lift the blackout for the Oakland game Dec. 5,8,500 for Kansas City on Dec. 12 and 6,500 for San Francisco on Dec. 16.
