Which agency do I contact regarding this cyber-crime?
It seems that somebody is “spoofing” my phone number, sending MMS messages to random people’s phones that contain photographs of naked male genitals and have my phone number in the “from” field. I know this because several of the victims have texted me back saying, “Who is this?”
From there, the whole story has come out about the unsolicited “dick pics.”
I’ve e-mailed my cellular service provider (AT&T), but I doubt they’ll be of any help. The victims have all been in the 916 (Sacramento, CA) area code, except for one in the 209 area code (Stockton, Tracy, and Modesto, CA). My phone number’s in the 415 (San Francisco) area, but I live in San Mateo county.
There is somebody I suspect of being the culprit, who is originally from Dublin, CA but recently relocated to Arizona.
So, if I want to complain to the police, who has jurisdiction here? I’m pretty sure the FBI has a cyber-crimes taskforce, but should my first contact be with state or local authorities?
